Tony Rice, Chairman
Tony was Chief Executive of Cable & Wireless Communications, the international telecoms operator group, from its demerger in March 2010 to December 2013, having previously served as CEO of the predecessor company since November 2008. He was Group FD of Cable and Wireless plc from March 2006 onwards.
Prior to that Tony was CEO of Tunstall, a private equity owned company that was Europe's leading elderly care technology business from 2002 until it's sale in 2005. Previously he was at British Aerospace and its successor company BAE Systems for 16 years as Group Treasurer and ultimately Group MD, Commercial Aircraft, responsible for its Airbus and Regional Aircraft business units. He also was involved in the launch of Orange MobileTelephony and Airbus Industries during this time. From 2002 he was CEO of Tunstall Holdings Ltd, Europe’s leading telecare company until its sale in September 2005.
Tony has been an NED and Senior Independent Director for Spirit Pub Company plc since 2008 and joined the Board of Halma in August 2014. He is also a Trustee for Shelter, the housing and homelessness charity and the Whittington. Hospital Trust.
He had been involved with various privately opened companies as a. Chairman and investor most notably Alexander Mann Solutions, the market leading HR outsource company until it's sale 18 months ago and currently Xerxes Equity and Atlas Software Solutions.
Gordon Shields, Founder
Gordon Shields founded Shields Environmental in 1979 and quickly adopted the challenge of making environmental excellence a part of everyday business.
Gordon has since received continual recognition for his 30 years plus of experience in developing cutting-edge environmental management capabilities and leading in other aspects of corporate responsibility alongside being a very successful entrepreneur.
Gordon served on the Leadership Board of Business in the Community's (BITC) Environment Division from 1996 to 2008. In addition, Gordon was invited by the UK's Environment Minister to serve on a steering group that assisted the UK Government in meeting its environmental targets and more recently, he served on a UK Government Business Task Force on Sustainability. Gordon has also contributed to the efforts of the United Nations Environmental Programme and was made a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts (RSA) for his contribution to the environment.
With regard to his entrepreneurial activities his last venture Regenersis he grew with his team from zero turnover in 2000 to £100m and £6m profits before retiring as Chairman in 2008. He now spends much of his time assisting companies with their development plans.

Daniel Jones, Chief Executive Officer
Daniel was appointed Group Finance Director of Shields Environmental in 2005. Previously he spent 4 years at Kingston Smith where he worked with many corporate clients, focused mainly on audit. Daniel is a qualified accountant (ACA), qualifying at the age of 22. Daniel was on assignment at Shields Environmental, helping to streamline the business finances, when his talent was spotted. In his spare time Daniel enjoys playing football, cycling and studying business opportunities. In 2009 Daniel was entered into the "Who's Who of Britain's Young Business Leaders".
David Challis, Chief Financial Officer
A qualified Chartered Accountant (ACA), David spent 14 years with Kingston Smith LLP where he was both a trainee and latterly a Partner. He was responsible for general corporate and professional advice to SME’s, their Directors and shareholders.
David originally joined Shields in 2000 and soon became Finance Director. After the successful de-merger and AIM listing of the mobile phones segment of the Shields business in 2005 he joined Fonebak PLC (Latterly Regenersis PLC), holding the position of Divisional Finance Director and General Manager. David returned to Shields during 2013 as Chief Financial Officer.
During his spare time, David is a keen golfer, and spent one summer as a caddy on the European Tour (the nearest he got to playing the game properly!!).
Paul van Puijenbroek, Managing Director EMEA
Paul van Puijenbroek is Managing Director of Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) and Asia Pacific (AP) at Shields Environmental Plc.
Paul’s responsibilities at Shields include leading the Sales, Business Development, Procurement, Product Management and Technical Operations teams. Paul joined Shields at the beginning of 2011.
Between 2004 and 2010, Paul was responsible as Managing Director for EMEA at Telmar Network Technology and prior to that performed a similar role at Somera Communications.
Previously, Paul held several senior, international positions within Logistics and Procurement at Compaq, Schlumberger and Saint Gobain, appointments which still give him considerable insight into the commercial and operational needs and different business priorities that Shields’ customers face globally.
Paul graduated from the Technical University in Eindhoven, the Netherlands from which he holds two degrees.
When he can find time away from work, Paul is a keen cyclist and no stranger to the alpine passes of southern Europe.
Dean Perry, Sales Director
Dean Perry joined the Company in July 2001. As Sales Director, Dean is now responsible for managing the sales teams throughout Europe, Middle East and Africa. Prior to joining Shields, Dean worked for Ericsson for 4 years (New Public Networks) and 16 years for BT. During these years Dean gained a wealth of knowledge on the technical aspects of network telecommunications equipment, which has been instrumental to the success of sales and operations.
Shane O'Seasnáin, Operations Director
Shane joined Shields Environmental in February 2014 from Ericsson, bringing with him over 15 years of experience in telecoms, broadcasting and logistics. In the past Shane has worked for a number of global brand companies with direct responsibility for managing operations, project management, network design and life-cycle management across multiple telecoms companies.
In the past Shane has led projects across Europe and globally, pioneering new telecoms business in mobile telephony, managed services and digital television from concept to execution. In addition, Shane has also lectured at the Dutch University of Applied Sciences in Breda, the Netherlands, specialising in change management, business process re-alignment and supply chains.
Shane is a qualified engineer in both manufacturing and electronic systems, and holds additional qualifications in PRINCE2 and ITIL.
Gerrit van Dijken, Technical Director
Gerrit is responsible for Shields’ technical capabilities and strategy, ensuring that Shields maintains its knowledge and experience on legacy systems, whilst expanding it on the latest technologies such as 4G.
Gerrit joined Shields Environmental in 2013. Prior to that, he spent several years working around the globe as an independent consultant in the Telecommunications industry. Before that, he worked 10 years for Ericsson in various roles.
Bringing a wealth of experience in network design, roll-out and operations, Gerrit understands all the life-cycle challenges that telecom operators face.
Dan Shields, Business Development Director
Dan joined the company in 1998 and pioneered the re-use and life cycle management of network assets in the emerging European market place. Dan then explored the established North American re-use landscape before recommending both of Shields' eventual company acquisitions. He is also a founding member of Fonebak (now Regenersis) which was successfully listed on AIM in 2005.
After a short sabbatical to pursue his own business and financial trading activities Dan returned to an active role at Shields focused on business development in Shields latest clean tech venture: Shields Energy Services Limited.
In his early career Dan studied food and wine and worked as a chef for Rick Stein and still enjoys cooking for friends and family. In addition he is a keen extreme skier, marathon runner, trekker and cyclist.
