Gordon Shields, Chairman and Founder
Gordon Shields founded Shields Environmental in 1979 and quickly adopted the challenge of making environmental excellence a part of everyday business.
Gordon has since received continual recognition for his 25 years of experience in developing cutting-edge environmental management capabilities and leading in other aspects of corporate responsibility alongside being a very successful entrepreneur.
Gordon served on the Leadership Board of Business in the Community's (BITC) Environment Division from 1996 to 2008. In addition, Gordon was invited by the UK's Environment Minister to serve on a steering group that assisted the UK Government in meeting its environmental targets and more recently, he served on a UK Government Business Task Force on Sustainability. Gordon has also contributed to the efforts of the United Nations Environmental Programme and was made a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts (RSA) for his contribution to the environment.
With regard to his entrepreneurial activities his last venture Regenersis he grew with his team from zero turnover in 2000 to £100m and £6m profits before retiring as Chairman in 2008. He now spends much of his time assisting companies with their development plans.
Ruben Peijnenborgh, Managing Director
Ruben joined Shields in February of 2004 with more than ten years experience in telecommunications. Through his extensive international experience in sales and supply of telecommunications equipment, and related services, Ruben is furthering Shields international growth.
Before joining Shields, Ruben was Director of Supply & Operations for Somera Communications for Europe, Middle East, Africa and Asia Pacific (EMEA/AP). At Somera, Ruben had a key role in starting and further building the EMEA/AP operation into a very profitable business. Prior to Somera, Ruben was Senior Consultant at Adstrat, a The Netherlands based Strategy Consultancy firm for the Telecommunications industry.
Ruben holds degrees in Electronics and Business Administration. Ruben is a keen traveler and has been to some quite unusual places including a visit to the Reindeer People of Mongolia.
Daniel Shields, Strategic Business Development Director
Dan joined the company in 1998 and pioneered the re-use and life cycle management of network assets in the emerging European market place. Dan then explored the established North American re-use landscape before recommending both of Shields' eventual company acquisitions. He is also a founding member of Fonebak (now Regenersis) which was successfully listed on AIM in 2005.
After a short sabbatical to pursue his own business and financial trading activities Dan returned to an active role at Shields focused on business development in Shields latest clean tech venture: Shields Energy Services.
In his early career Dan studied food and wine and worked as a chef for Rick Stein and still enjoys cooking for friends and family. In addition he is a keen extreme skier, marathon runner, trekker and cyclist.
Daniel Jones, Group Finance Director
Daniel was appointed Group Finance Director of Shields Environmental in 2005. Previously he spent 4 years at Kingston Smith where he worked with many corporate clients, focused mainly on audit. Daniel is a qualified accountant (ACA), qualifying at the age of 22. Daniel was on assignment at Shields Environmental, helping to streamline the business finances, when his talent was spotted. In his spare time Daniel enjoys playing football, cycling and studying business opportunities. In 2009 Daniel was entered into the "Who's Who of Britain's Young Business Leaders".
