HRH The Prince of Wales attends May Day Summit 2008
Our Chairman, Gordon Shields was invited to attend the May Day Summit 2008 with other key Environmental figures and many of the FTSE 100 CEOs. HRH The Prince of Wales, The Rt Hon Gordon Brown MP and Senator George Mitchell of the USA attended and addressed the meeting.
HRH The Prince of Wales stated "May Day is very appropriate as May Day is the international distress call and climate change may be such an emergency" and he urged companies to join together and take action. Senator George Mitchell stated "I believe the American people now want to be a leader in addressing the climate change". Prime Minister Gordon Brown congratulated HRH The Prince of Wales for all the work he had done encouraging action by business on such issues. These actions will include measuring their carbon footprint and a target reduction. The aim was to increase the 1000 companies that are already taking action on their carbon emissions and energy usage to 10,000 companies by 2012.

Shields Environmental becomes an approved Producer Compliance Scheme (PCS) for Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE).
The EU Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) Directive is one of a series of 'producer responsibility’ Directives that makes EU producers of new equipment pay for the recycling and/or safe treatment and disposal of the products they put on the market when they eventually come to be disposed of.
Shields Environmental has 27 years of experience in asset management within the telecoms and IT industry. Our scheme specialises in these areas enabling us to offer returns on redundant equipment either by re-use or through recycling.
To complement this service we offer de-installation and transport services enabling us to provide customers with a complete life cycle asset management service.

Shields opens new facility in Amsterdam
As part of Shields' strategy for the EMEA/AP market, an office has been opened in the Netherlands in addition to the UK office. This state-of-the-art facility will, similar to the operations in the UK and North America, provide 'Whole Life Cycle Management' Services for the Telecommunications Industry, part of which is the testing and refurbishment of Telecommunications equipment.

Yorkshire Water Wins Prestigious Shields Environmental Award for Excellence
Yorkshire Water's commitment to environmental best practice was rewarded when it gained the Shields Environmental Award for environmental sustainability at Business in the Community's National Awards for Excellence held at the Royal Albert Hall, London.
Yorkshire Water's award was given for the work it has undertaken in a variety of environmental practices which included the way it works with its contract partners and how it trains its staff on key environmental issues.
Tony Harrington, head of environment, health and safety for Yorkshire Water, said: "This is excellent recognition for all of our staff. Over 90 per cent of colleagues have undertaken environmental training which really has made a difference to the company. They are always looking for new ways to reduce our impact on the environment which is very encouraging.

Shields ranks 1st for the sixth consecutive year in Environment Index
For the sixth consecutive year, Shields Environmental again demonstrated environmental leadership by ranking first in Business in
The Community's Environment Index scoring 98.2%. The Index benchmarks corporate environmental responsibility. It assesses the extent to which environmental responsibility is integrated throughout an organization, and provides a benchmark for both environmental management and performance in impact areas material to the business. It is widely recognized as the leading benchmark of corporate environmental engagement.
The Index also offers tools to measure progress and drive continuous Improvement while providing credible, independent and comparable information to stakeholders.
Companies invited to participate in the Index include: FTSE100 and
FTSE250 (excluding Investment Trusts); non-FTSE listed Business in the
Community national members; and sector leaders from the Dow Jones Sustainability Index. 178 companies participated in the Environment Index.

Social Responsibility (CSR) and has highlighted Shields Environmental

DTI Awards Shields Big Tick for Excellence
12 May 2003: The UK Department of Trade and Industry (DTI)
formally presented Shields with its Big Tick mark. The mark
can only be used by companies that have reached a measurable
standard of excellence illustrating their position as an ‘Example
of Best Practice’ in the field of corporate responsibility.
Stephen Timms, Minister of State for Energy, E-Commerce and
Postal Services presented the award to Shields.
