Responsible Materials Recycling
Protection of the environment is central to our business strategy. Accordingly, we have developed an Environmental Management System (EMS) which is certificated to ISO 14001 and registered with EMAS, the European Eco-management and Audit Scheme.
Any equipment that is not suitable for re-use is sent for safe and responsible materials recycling.
Shields has extensive expertise in managing the full scope of recycling activities. We have developed best practice processes with our worldwide recycling partners to ensure precise environmental controls are employed throughout all stages of the safe recycling/treatment process, whilst extracting the maximum intrinsic value from our clients surplus network infrastructure. Shields is an Approved Authorised Treatment Facility (AATF), ensuring full compliance with the recently introduced WEEE regulations.
We provide all our clients with full financial and environmental reports which not only demonstrate the positive contribution to the bottom line, but also environmental excellence - contributing to our clients' corporate responsibility programmes and hard-earned brand images.
Our environmental system has been incorporated into all company operations to ensure that we:
- Manage and minimise environmental risks.
- Provide a fully audited and sustainable alternative to landfill for the secure disposal of electrical, electronic and other equipment and materials managed by the company by way of re-use and recycling.
- Maintain our 100% regulatory compliance record.
- Measure and publicly report our environmental performance annually.
- Assess the environmental performance of key suppliers and cooperate with suppliers, clients and business partners to achieve higher environmental standards.
- Encourage sustainable development through business example and voluntary endeavours, both nationally and within the local community.
